Now, five years later, the studio is taking a second whack at “Cars” with the same director, Pixar-Disney creative boss John Lasseter, in charge. When it first opened in 2006, the film was sliced and diced for being visually uninspired, having characters that didn’t have the same resonance one had come to expect in a Pixar movie and being just a bit too derivative in its storytelling (its plot resembled the 1991 live-action film, “Doc Hollywood,” a little too closely).
